The Barber of Seville
Opera Philadelphia
Recorded at The Academy of Music
Screened at Independence Mall
Rossini Rules!
Philadelphia is the one place I can actually get out and watch an opera on the big screen with the crowd. Instead of a simulcast, Opera Philadelphia screens the opera the day after we capture it. This gives the cast and crew a chance to be there and feel the excitement along with the audience. I loved it along with over six thousand enthusiastic opera fans.
This was a new production from Spain with a bright new set design by Shoko Kambara. Amanda Seymour was costume designer.
This was Michael Shell’s Opera Philadelphia debut as stage director. Corrado Rovaris conducted.

Opera on the Mall was presented by PNC Arts Alive and was also made possible through the generous support of the William Penn Foundation and the Wyncote Foundation. WHYY and METRO were media partners. The weather was perfect!
